This is a digital homage to James Turrell’s “Ganzfeld” installations. Stepping inside a Ganzfeld is a sensory experience where your vision blends the interior of the room into a singular void. Your brain grasps for a focal point that it won’t find. Spending time inside is disorienting and people have been known to get nauseated, dizzy, or even fall over.

To approximate the experience I used html, css, and javascript to make a keyframe animation on a ten minute loop. Although it’s impossible to replicate the immersion of the real thing, if you go into fullscreen mode and sit two inches from your monitor, it’s pretty close. I hope to one day turn this into a virtual reality experience.
